2025 is marked by deep economic uncertainty, political volatility, and intensifying global competition. At home, shifting immigration policy and affordability pressures are front of mind; abroad, renewed geopolitical tensions and rapid technological change are reshaping the landscape. The stakes for Canada’s long term prosperity are clear and urgent.
Prosperity, quality of life, and security depend on a responsible plan for growth that builds a strong economy, a productive workforce, and communities where people can thrive through inclusive infrastructure, accessible housing, and responsive public services. Our submission to the 2026 pre budget consultations translates this into three recommendations, informed by Century Initiative’s annual National Scorecard and Canada's Growth and Prosperity and our Smart Growth Framework (Growing Smarter: The Case for a National Smart Growth Framework).
Recommendation 1:Create a national population strategy for long-term prosperity.
Recommendation2: Course-correct immigration policy to win the global competition for talent.
Recommendation3: Modernize Canada’s information systems to counter disinformation and strengthen democratic resilience.
