📉 Canada’s life expectancy decreased for the second consecutive year in 2021, dropping 0.7 years from 2019 to 2021. While some peer countries saw a rebound, Canada continues to face challenges from the pandemic and the ongoing opioid crisis, particularly impacting young people. 🚨 Significant inequities exist, with life expectancy for Indigenous populations being five to 11 years shorter than for non-Indigenous populations. 🌱 Life expectancy is a key indicator of population health, living standards, and quality of life—essential for our future growth and well-being. #HealthOutcomes #LifeExpectancy #PublicHealth #cdnpoli

📈 Over the past decade, Indigenous contributions to Canada's GDP have grown steadily, reaching 2.2% in 2020. This growth is driven by ambitious Indigenous-led projects, from resource ventures in the Prairies to new residential neighborhoods in Vancouver. While significant progress has been made, there's still room for growth. Challenges like inadequate infrastructure and limited access to financing persist, but initiatives like the Canada Infrastructure Bank's $1 billion equity loan program and the First Nations Financial Authority's $2 billion in loans are paving the way. Supporting the Indigenous economy is crucial for reconciliation and Canada's economic future. As the Indigenous population grows faster than the national average, their contributions are increasingly vital. 📈 In 2022, Canada’s employment rate soared, outpacing the OECD average and tackling labour demand head-on. This stability amidst a growing population is promising, but 2023 brought some fluctuations, highlighting ongoing challenges for equity-seeking groups. 👥 Notably, Canadians with disabilities faced much lower employment rates compared to their peers. Unlocking opportunities for underrepresented groups isn't just fair – it’s essential for our future. 💼 Broadening employment means thriving businesses, rising household incomes, and mitigating the effects of an aging population. By tapping into the potential of all Canadians, we can pave the way for a prosperous future for everyone. Let’s make inclusion our strength. #InclusiveGrowth #EmploymentOpportunities #Equity #FutureProsperity #cdnpoli

Despite some improvement in the wake of COVID 19, Canada’s GDP per capita has been trending downwards and is projected to remain below peer countries in the years ahead. The OECD predicts that Canada’s annual GDP per capita will grow at a rate of 0.7% between 2020 and 2030, while the OECD average projected growth rate over the same period is 1.3%. If Canada’s GDP per capita needs attention, its productivity levels are already falling behind. While we ranked 15th out of 38 OECD countries on GDP per capita in 2021, we were 18th in GDP per hour worked – a measure of how efficiently labour and capital stock are being used in the economy. International research indicates that immigration can lead to increases in GDP per capita in advanced economies, and that growth in immigration can have significant potential to boost productivity, as it helps expand the talent pool and brings in new ideas and innovation. With the right policy choices and effective integration of newcomers into the labour market, immigration can be used as a tool to increase Canada’s productivity and overall prosperity, helping us to grow well into the long-term Learn more at: https://www.centuryinitiative.ca/scorecard/economy-innovation-entrepreneurship #GrowingWell #BigBoldCanada

🏠 Access to affordable, suitable, and adequate housing is essential for the health and well-being of our growing Canadian population. Quality and secure housing are strongly linked to positive health outcomes and long-term social cohesion, which are crucial for Canada's future growth. 📊 To achieve housing affordability for everyone by the end of the decade, it's estimated that we need 3.5 million additional new housing units. Let's work together to make this vision a reality and ensure a bright future for all Canadians. #AffordableHousing #HealthyCommunities #FutureGrowth #CanadaHousing #cdnpoli 🌐 While most Canadian households now have access to 50/10 Mbps broadband, Northern and rural regions still lag behind. In 2022, 1.1 million households in these areas lacked adequate coverage, limiting access to the digital economy, health care, and education. 🚀 High-speed satellite options like Starlink are helping to bridge the gap, supported by federal and provincial investments. However, slow project approvals and high costs remain a challenge. 📈 To ensure all Canadians, especially those in rural areas, have high-speed broadband by the decade's end, we need coordinated effort and investments from all levels of government. #RuralConnectivity #DigitalInclusion #CanadaGrowth #BroadbandForAll #cdnpoli

Support for children & families

There are now a few more child care spots for kids aged 0 to 5, but it's still not enough to meet the demand. Some provinces have lowered child care fees, which has led to even more people looking for spots, making it hard to find one anywhere in the country. Increasing the number of regulated child care spaces is difficult because there aren't enough qualified educators. Access to child care remains particularly tough for newcomers, individuals with disabilities, low-income families, racialized groups, and Indigenous communities. A vibrant early childhood education and care system isn't just about babysitting – it’s about nurturing young minds and empowering parents, especially mothers, to enter or re-enter the workforce. Let's break down barriers and prioritize accessible child care for all, supporting families and shaping a brighter future for Canada. 🌟 #Childcare #EarlyEducation #cdnpoli
