Century Initiative has released its 2025 Annual Report, Planning for Growth: What Canada Needs Now, reflecting on a year in which questions about immigration, housing, affordability, healthcare and workforce pressures moved to the centre of national debate.
As these conversations intensified, Century Initiative worked to broaden the discussion beyond immigration levels alone toward a more fundamental question: how can Canada better plan for growth and prepare for the future?
Throughout 2025, our research, convening and public engagement explored the connections between population change and the systems that underpin Canada’s prosperity and quality of life—from housing and infrastructure to workforce development, productivity and economic resilience.
The report highlights key work from the year, including the fifth edition of the National Scorecard on Canada’s Growth and Prosperity, new research examining housing affordability and the implications of Canada’s immigration pullback, contributions to federal policy discussions, and forums and partnerships that brought together leaders from business, government, academia, civil society and younger generations.
The work points to a consistent conclusion: Canada’s immediate pressures and its longer-term demographic and economic challenges cannot be addressed separately. Stronger coordination, better data and more deliberate long-term planning will be critical to building resilient communities and securing Canada’s future prosperity.
As Canada enters a period of significant economic, demographic and geopolitical change, Century Initiative will continue helping Canadians understand the choices and trade-offs ahead, strengthening evidence-informed decision-making, and creating space for practical, forward-looking conversations about the country’s future.
