More Details
This graph projects population growth with a fixed 1.5 fertility rate. It assumes that new federal government immigration level targets are reached in 2021 (401,000), 2022 (411,000) and 2023 (421,000) and projects increases in immigration by a further 20,000 new permanent residents in 2024 (441,000), 2025 (461,000) and 2026 (481,000). It holds immigration constant thereafter at a rate of 1.22% of population per year until 2100. From 2027 on, this represents smaller year-over-year increases in immigration as a percentage of population for the next several decades. A broader set of assumptions were used in the calculations, including out-migration and projected death rates.
